CCCMB history and timeline

  • 1986 – Joined State Parks Trails Committee & negotiated to keep MdO open to bikes
  • 1986 – Spring, first informal workday
  • 1987 – Fall, decided to form CCCMB
  • 1988 – First Super Bowl Sunday, worked East Boundary
  • 1988 – Winter, first newsletter (or early 1989)
  • 1989 – Spring, joined IMBA (founded spring of ’88; international headquarters Bishop, CA)
  • 1991 – Poly Canyon closed to mountain bikes
  • 1991 – Joined SLO County Trails Committee
  • 1992 – First official CCCMB meeting; BofD: Dave Arndt, Gary McBride, Dale Wilhelm, Deanna Steen, Dave Richardson, Ron Dexter, Greg & Mary Bettencourt, John & Christie Cutter
  • 1992 – First jersey issued
  • 1992 – Poly Canyon Road reopened (thanks to Dave Arndt & CCCMB); singletrack reopened in ‘94
  • 1992 – Crested Butte expedition
  • 1992 – Began to open Powerline/Secret Trail/Castro Mine (opened with Dairy Creek in 1995)
  • 1993 – SLOBC makes first of many annual contributions
  • 1993 – First tools, bike hang-tags and maps purchased (with SLOBC contribution)
  • 1993 – Tour of La Panza
  • 1993 – Shooters cleanup day (filled a pickup truck and a big stake-side with trash & broken glass)
  • 1993 – Barranca Trail begun; completed 1994
  • 1993 – Worked at Santa Margarita Lake for 1st time
  • 1994 – Hiway 41 fire (August) burns entire West Cuesta Ridge and clears 80 years of brush
  • 1994 – Began route finding for what would become Morning Glory Trail
  • 1995 – First Wheelman Club participation on a work day
  • 1996 – Morning Glory opened after 1st official CCCMB workday (all underground before)
  • 1996 – Fernandez Trail officially adopted by CCCMB
  • 1996 – Mules used to haul decomposed granite to top of East Boundary trying to solve mud issue
  • 1996 – First Trail Worker of the Year Award
  • 1996 – Worked at Lopez Lake for 1st time
  • 1997 – First Chris King Trail Daze – Fernandez Trail in fall
  • 1997 – First IMBA Trail guru (Curt Loheit) visit, and 2000; Joey Kline 2001; Nate & Rachael 2004
  • 1998 – Cierro Alto reroutes flagged; completed 2005
  • 1998 – Trail Daze, Cierro Alto in spring
  • 1998 – Rocky Canyon Trail in Atascadero – first official workday there
  • 1998 – Trail Daze, Cerro Cabrillo in fall
  • 1998 – Second Jersey issued
  • 1999 – Trail Daze, Santa Margarita Lake (start Rocky’s Trail) in spring
  • 1999 – Camatta Ranch Campout

  • 2000 – Trail Daze, Santa Margarita Lake (completed Rocky’s Trail) in fall
  • 2001 – Trail Daze, Santa Margarita Lake (Sandstone Trail on north side of lake) in spring
  • 2001 – Trail Daze, Santa Margarita Lake (continued Sandstone) in fall
  • 2002 – Forest Service/CCCMB meeting to get West Cuesta Ridge Trails adopted
  • 2002 – Cuesta Ridge Alliance: meeting of all stakeholders (e.g. Poly, City, Forest Service, CCCMB)
  • 2002 – Trail Daze, Cerra Cabrillo (major reroute of ridge) in spring
  • 2002 – Trail Daze, Irish Hills (Mariposa Trail) in fall
  • 2003 – First Trail Werks, MdO (started East Boundary reroute) in spring
  • 2003 – Prewitt Trail (twice yearly work begins to make the 12 mile loop rideable)
  • 2003 – Trail Werks, Irish Hills (King Trail) in fall
  • 2004 – Invited to join the Forest Service’s Los Padres Trails Committee
  • 2004 – Flagging of Ridge reroute begun
  • 2004 – Trail Werks, MdO (finished East Boundary reroute) in spring
  • 2004 – Web site launched
  • 2006 – State Parks/CCCMB Trails School initiated
  • 2004 – Flagging of SLO City’s “M” trail begun
  • 2006 – Trail Werks (started Ridge Trail reroute, now called Hazard Peak Trail) in spring
  • 2006 – Trail Werks (continue Ridge reroute, now called Hazard Peak Trail) in fall
  • 2006 – CCCMB flexes its political muscle and helps get the County’s Trail Plan adopted
  • 2007 – CCCMB celebrates its 20th anniversary at the 20th Super Bowl Sunday Workday
  • 2007 – Adopted new CCCMB Logo
  • 2007 – Flagging of Elevator trail begun
  • 2007 – First cut of SLO City’s “M” trail
  • 2008 – CCCMB starts designing a new Jersey
